So it’s 20 years to the day since Britain went to the polls and elected Tony Blair’s New Labour in a landslide.

An opinion poll on the day of the 1997 election gave Labour a 17pt lead.

Fast forward two decades and it’s the Labour party that is now staring down the barrel of electoral calamity. Can Corbyn better the 165 seats onto which Major managed to cling?
